The Department offers two forms of research assistantships for undergraduate students which are intended to stimulate your interest in research in Psychology. They are also meant to encourage you to undertake graduate studies and pursue a research career. If you would like to gain research experience in an academic setting, these awards can provide you with financial support. You may receive funding from only one of the programs shown below. Those eligible for the NSERC USRA should apply to that one first. Both awards offer a minimum salary of $5625.
Summer Undergraduate NSERC Award
If you are interested in this award you must first contact a Psychology Faculty member with an active NSERC research grant (see below). If that individual agrees to nominate you for this award, both of you will have to complete and submit Form 202-part 1 and part 2 (USRA -Undergraduate Student Research Awards), to our Department Coordinator (Jennifer Janicki, Undergraduate Psychology Advisor) along with an official copy of your transcript. The form and more information about NSERC can be found on their website www.nserc.ca. Only complete applications will be accepted. The deadline is the 3rd Friday in February.
Quinn Research Assistantships
To be eligible to apply for an award you must have obtained at least the equivalent of a B+ (75% at UBC) cumulative average in previous university level course work. To hold an award you must have completed the course requirements of at least two years of university study; have been registered full time in the term immediately before holding the award; not be receiving major funding from another award program; and not be pursuing a program of graduate studies. If you are interested in this award you must first contact a Psychology Faculty member listed below. If the Faculty member agrees to nominate you for this award, each of you must complete a Quinn Research Assistantship form (student and supervisor) and submit along with a copy of your transcript to our Department Coordinator (Jennifer Janicki, Undergraduate Psychology Advisor, room 2502). The deadline is the 3rd Friday in February.
Funding provided by a generous gift from the estate of a distinguished alumnus, Dr. Michael J. Quinn (1917-2005).
